Opening Ceremony for Family Medicine Training Center
 

The opening of Family Medicine Training Center and its attached Integrated Clinic signifies commitment of The Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH) to promote Family Medicine training and services. The Family Medicine Training Center combines professional Family Medicine training and provision of "one-stop service" to patients. 

The Center was officially opened today (Friday, 4 May) by the Secretary for Health and Welfare, Dr E K YEOH. Addressing at the opening ceremony, Dr YEOH said, "In a population perspective, it is recognised that investing in primary medical care, including family medicine practice, will yield improved patient outcome and population health indicators.""I believed that the effectiveness of primary medical care of Hong Kong should be enhanced by the promotion and adoption of family medicine practice. " Dr YEOH also remarked that the training provided in the Center would benefit not only trainees of the Center but also the health of the local community. 

Other officiating guests at the ceremony included Mr. John CHAN, CBE, LVO, JP, Chairman, Hospital Governing Committee, Prince of Wales Hospital; Professor Sydney CHUNG, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong; and Dr. Donald LI, President, Hong Kong College of Family Physicians.

At the training center, Family Medicine Supervisors will monitor and supervise all consultation in real-time mode using comprehensive up-to-date equipment. In collaboration with the Department of Community and Family Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Family Medicine Training Center of PWH will be one of the major centers providing Family Medicine training and service in Hong Kong. 

The attached Integrated Clinic has been set up since 1 July 1999 and provides Family Medicine services to patients with stable condition. The services emphasize on comprehensive, continuous and coordinating care which are the main theme of Family Medicine practice. Services provided included diagnosis, treatment, health assessment, disease prevention, health education, counseling and referrals to other health care professionals in the "one-stop" service clinic.
